I do not know what you mean by "people like me". I belive in holding bitcoin, but I believe it's only use beside silkroad is holding so that it can be exchanged later for much much more than it could have on the day of buy.
I don't know where you're living I'm relatively sure you're not affected by ongoing crisis in any way,
don't have relatives that were scammed by banks, didn't get your bank account seized or haven't even thought about the flaws of a centralized currency in combination with a f***ed up financial system.
just keep on seeing the whole thing as some highrisk investment with real good profits perhaps you will realize the other side of the coin in the future.
UK, graduating in few weeks, not affected one bit, you are right in that.
University will hopefully open your eyes some.

I"ve only been around watching the BTC for the last 3 months, and one thing that stands out when zooming out to the full picture volumes where much higher when BTC was valued lower (and when there were less BTC minted). Now it takes less BTC from whales now to "move" the market. So maybe this is because there are more BTC in the market. Is that a good theory?
EDIT: My theory is probably wrong, but it's an interesting observation, and it would be good to see a chart that takes into account the available BTC participating in volume for such charts
It's important to remember the value required to create volume in Bitcoin exchanges.
If Bitcoin is valued at $10, then $100 can move 10
BTC, but if Bitcoin is valued at $100, then $100 will only move 1
BTC.
On Bitcoincharts.com, at least, if you view all data, click the checkbox on the right to show "Volume in Currency"That will illustrate the difference.

I have about $85,000 riding on Bitcoin, don't you worry.
Woah, pretty quick to throw that out there!
Never claimed anything about how much or little you had invested, was purely referencing your assumptions about what others' intentions with their
BTC are. Pretty standard sentiment around that count.

Over the past weeks Mt. Gox has experienced rising volumes of deposits and withdrawals from established and upcoming markets interested in Bitcoin. This increased volume has made it difficult for our bank to process the transactions smoothly and within a timely manner, which has created unnecessary delays for our global customers. This is especially so for those in the United States who are requesting wire transfer withdrawals from their accounts.
Agreed on bullish.

Yup, I think we just witnessed the popping of the third great Bitcoin bubble. I was expecting it to reach > $2000 and last another month or two personally.
we gotta go by the working exchanges. its still not far off last weeks low.. or still this weeks low.. I don't understand why you think this a huge bubble pop just yet lol
When you've been through a couple of them they start to feel similar.
Bingo. As does the lull that follows for a few weeks/months as the newer folks deal with the shell shock and then the rocket trip to the next bigger planet.

Also Microsoft only accepts payment in USA.
I guess we have more chance to see BTC rises if we see they accepting in others parts of the world, because I think USA BTC market is kind of already saturated and news like the Microsoft one won't spark more acceptance.
It might actually encourage Sony to jump onboard. Sony is horrible with network security and Bitcoin could just help encourage purchases instead of holding credit cards info.
At this point, I would expect the others to start accepting. NewEgg and others felt like small dominoes leaning down, applying pressure, but Microsoft is a BIG FUCKING DOMINO could really get mass acceptance moving.

We've seen a bottom, nothing is stopping this train now.
A slow climb back upto 1000 USD before the next halving.
When has Bitcoin exerienced slow climbs? Slow declines appear to be common but the rises never seem to be very slow.

They don't last as long as the slow declines have, but they certainly happen:
http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#rg60zczsg2013-6-30zeg2013-10-30ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zvHere's a good example of the slow climb that preceded the November 2013 ATH.
Edit: Not saying we will see the same of either again, as the market is much different now - but we have seen it before. I definitely do not think it would remain slow up to/past $1000... - if it goes that high, it will be on the back of a much more violent honeybadger.

That been said. Bitcoin isn't Gold, Steel or Cement. In theory an ETF (or similar) shouldn't be necessary. I understand that a lot of investors like to work that way, but it's kind of odd when they just as well could open an account on Coinbase and trensfer it to a Trezor.
hardware devices can fail...
face it hodling isnt easy.
Well, everything is easy when you know what you're doing. I would have thought people who trade in tech were sufficiently proficient. But you're right of course.
Plenty of investors don't want to or don't have time to gain that proficiency.
This, from the article, is very important:
what if you want to diversify your investment portfolio into this new asset class, but do not have the expertise or resources to securely procure and store bitcoin?

I prefer up over down, but damn this is way more fun than hovering at a price for a few days!

Wow. A whole page without a single noob sockpuppet troll post?
Price must be rising.
I hope I didn't just jinx it.

Don't think we'll make it for a whole page...

Did not expect to see old Gox coins coming back. Hopefully those folks that lost a lot can get something back at least.

I'm just patiently waiting for this 5000 coin sale to go through on GBTC..
Being short now is like being long at 1000 dollars. What bears don't seem to realise is that most bitcoin bulls are happy to buy at these prices and support the mining supply and then some. The BTFD mentality gets stronger the lower the price is forced because bulls know it is likely to rise again. We have been here before (myself twice).
Bitcoin is a demonstration of how price manipulation is easy - both up and down - un unregulated markets. It is simply an artificial destabilisation of supply and demand - principally by selling large numbers of coins into the market all at once, overwhelming the real bids with artificial asks. But the only point of doing that (unless it is a nefarious party like a central bank) is for profit - either by gaining coins by relying on sheep traders to momentum sell the price lower for you, or, by shorting and using derivatives at the same time as you sell.
Manipulation works until it doesn't. Since the 160 bottom where a huge amount of coins were purchased we have seen 5 attempts to break down through resistance between 200 and 220. Each have been rebuffed. Last night was a clear attempt to push us into or through that range.
In my mind the difference now is that I will only increase my buying in response to such artificial selling.
Great points here and think they bear (bull?) repeating.
