Concidering this whole GOX situation, BTC price seems to be holding up, so this is actually... good news?
Seems like it, trading paused on Stamp for a while, just to timidly resume to reasonable values just now.
Earned a (small) 0.05 BTC today, yay!  Tongue

As far this board goes, that prediction is so reasonable as to be unreasonable!
And it's also funny seeing the immediate reaction on buying whatever's left at 350, so people don't miss the train.
Let's try this again:
I'm speculating that in the next few hours, we'll hit 270 again on Stamp.  Cheesy

At least now I know where is all the money coming from.
Over a couple (maybe 5 to 7) minutes, China bought ~1000 BTCs with their local Yuans, while US bought ~60 BTCs with USDs.
Now, is that China saying : "hey, rest of the world, here's some cash from all of us - cash it in now if you'd like, or watch us get rich in mid-term..."

LTC was appreciating by % more against BTC than the dollar yesterday, been buying more this morning - it did not crash as much as BTC (on BTC-e).

It seems to be getting away with the 'If BTC is gold, LTC is silver' tag.

At 0.035 ish, I think it's a buy.   BTC will rally back up and at the very least LTC does not like losing against BTC, so it is no a stupid thing to do.

You really ought to look at the BTC/LTC historical charts.

When there was a mere rumor that some Gox / China will implement LTC trading, people jumped on it and its value rose to ~$50 from ~$10.
Some days after that, all the good GPU cards were sold out throughout Europe. All of them.

Getting in and out from exchange to exchange and currency to currency (even if you're 24/7 at it) will end up in tears for you (in most cases) if you don't have previous experience and knowledge.

I personally follow and post here the 5 rules of success for you:
1. Don't get emotional from other's people thoughts.
2. Not everyone here is a "nice person" you can trust.
3. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, DON'T TRADE.
4. HOLD!!!
5. Until you desperately need the money follow rule #4.

Good Luck!
I think this is the very best advice I could ever read on this thread.
Went cold storage after that.
Until we're up to $ 10.000, everything else is background noise for me.

China and January 31st, people are scared. When that shit is finished and we get rid of that fear, I wouldn't be in bears skin who fail to react fast. There is so many good news that when it explode it's going to be an epic one.
I'd say we'll see a brief ~20 minutes worth of around $650 on BTC-e right at the end of the month. If you take a look at China's exchanges' websites, they are so silent about anything happening after that - more than that, they are hiring people to help them out, thinking of expanding (take a look at OK Coin's News section). However, Eu and US will turn Bear - a lot, even, but when they realize they dumped coins at 650 and immediately after that it skyrockets to ~2k/BTC, they will get left behind and have no other chance than buying it back at a (hard) loss, or stay forever in fiat money and enjoy their earnings by that point. However, I'd hate to sell at (even) 750, when there is a distinct possibility it shoots up way higher than that short term.

Allright, back to observing, lads.

It seems that each exchange has a ton of people watching the charts, on their toes, fingers above keyboards and mice, waiting to click the "Sell" button. Then they give it another 10 minutes, stroll out for a pee and a cigarette, just to get back to find out that "wow, it's almost the same price... well, maybe I'll wait a little longer".

So - It's Friday late evening over here - is the "big crash" everyone's preaching about happening over this week-end, or not? If we do crash, could we do it in a civilized manner? If you hodl a stash greater than (amount x) - could you please not sell all at once, so we can also get off / on the train ? Thanks!  Roll Eyes

L.E. or, please - could we bounce back to ~800 levels on the more liquid exchanges ? Thanks x 2!

Now its seems that they list only BTC-e/EUR and BTC-e/RUR.  Yet Bitcoinwisdom.com still lists BTC-e/USD.
And they still don't list Huobi or OKCoin, but list BTC-China.  For technical reasons, or political?

BTCe trade data is likely faked as well.

I would beg to disagree, I saw each and every move I made on that exchange "live", on Bitcoinwisdom. I'm nobody, with relatively small amounts, but i could identify my moves every time and they were accurate.
Now, whether they have their own "inside game" rolling on the exchange I don't know.

Those who were here for long enough are getting tired of the stability. One can tell by the sheer speed people had selling ~1000 coins into a wall at $800 for the entire trend to stop right there after the wall got eaten.
I'm 101% sure that if someone else sticks a buy wall at 810 of the same magnitude, it will be bought into at the same pace, so previous "bears" don't miss the train. However, the entire 1000BTC "up" movement will cease just after that fact.
I think a clear "up" or "down" signal, backed by more than 5000 coins being bought / sold can tip the balance in any of the two directions and more would just follow.

Stamp (with all its Eu customers) seems to have got the above message. It doesn't budge with Huobi (Chinese don't really care if Europeans are losing their fiat or not) or Gocs ... was it Gox ? Forgot about some exchange that once was talked about around here.

Stamp did it, in quite a short time it seems. Gox can do that too.
We'll be back to where you can't get fiat money out of Gox (because they do not physically have money - or do they, after manipulating the market like that, BTC can be bought as we speak from their own traders), but you can get BTC out.

Let's see how many of those BTC migrate to Stamp / BTCe for a quick buck - I could get away with a couple of days delays in wire transfers for 100% profits...

Just witnessed a ~900 BTC buy spike on gox to which (inexplicably, for me at least) all the other markets reacted immediately.
If we're still moving together with Gox on ups / downs, it means it's high time to wire all the fiat in there and buy the hell out of them cheap BTCs right about now.

Anyone care to explain to me why in the name of Lord are the "liquid" exchanges (such as presumably Stamp / BTCe) follow the Gox price trends ? Why do we need to panic buy whenever there's some random dude that buys 100 BTCs at $200 each on Gox ?! Why do we panic sell when they panic sell ?!

I would only predict red on the Stamp / BTCe charts - Once BTC withdrawals are re-enabled on Gox, price rockets up over there (and of course, inexplicably, also on the other exchanges which will blindly follow); then we have about half an hour (3-4 confirmations) until Goxed people start dumping the coins all over the other exchanges.

Look, people are not going to dump on Stamp. Why? Let's discuss.

A. Some people are going to stay loyal to Gox. Yes, believe it or not, some people will continue to trade there.
B. Many Gox users do not have accounts at Stamp. Some of them don't have accounts because they didn't want to have to give up personal information. Others, for other reasons, too many to list here. So people will have to be verified before they can get money out of Stamp.
C. Some people will just put their coins back into cold storage. Lesson learned. Don't trade.
D. Some people will put coins into Stamp and Btc-e to trade them.

I believe Gox had the highest % (relative to the other exchanges) of old coins and users. These are loyalists - either to the bitcoin technology or to bitcoin trading (on Gox for the best volatility) and, thus, less likely to cash out and go 100% fiat back to their "normal" pre-bitcoin lives.
People bought thousands of $200 coins and you don't think they are gonna turn around and immediately sell them for at least 250% profit? Maybe a few won't but I sure as hell would. And I think it will put us into a medium term bear market.

I would too, if I had some fiat on Gox some days ago, I would surely buy all them $250-$350 coins I could. OF COURSE Gox will resume withdrawals, it's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when" and "what" happens on all the exchanges after 1) it is announced; 2) it is effective, and people can actually withdraw BTC.

May I remind all of you of those ~1k ... ~3k dumps and panic buys that were happening just some days ago ?! It's amazing how short term is the crowd's memory - people only see trains, moons, rockets and nice asses (double ones, too).  Undecided

So everyone on the fondation was aware about that long time ago ??
Same for the guy dumping 10K yesterday ?
Same for this guy, moving a shitload of old coin the last day @ 850$/btc

Last thing we saw yesterday that *should* have raised some eyebrows was the guy that dumped 10k on Stamp. It seems to be insider info to me.
No, we decided that "they slept all well after putting the order in", "everything's fine" ... nobody (myself included) saw the very uncommon happening of 10k (that's ten thousand coins!) appearing on a (liquid, I might add) exchage all of a sudden. FFS, 10k is more than 20% of all the coins one could sell on Bitstamp, and some 50% of what can be bought in a reasonable amount of time - without taking into consideration the "dormant" user accounts that just have (shitloads of) BTCs or fiat on them, without any bids on the exchange.
Anyway ... if 20% of the market vanishing in a couple of hours wasn't a red flag for me, then shame on my ability to see the big picture, trade, TA, or whatever you want, I deserve to have funds stuck / prolly lost.

Until further notice, I'm back to mining with two GPUs for a breakfast + electricity cost each day.  Undecided

Bought 40 LTC for 1,1 BTC. Good or bad idea?

Depends how patient you are. It's guaranteed 20-30% profit at some time, even more if more patient.

In BTC or Fiat-terms?

btc, soon or later ltc goes over 0.03

Damn I wish I had listened to you yesterday. That would´ve been a straight profit of 25%  Cry

I watched LTC charts for a long time and have seen that they go paralel with the price of BTC so I thought it does not matter if you are in BTC or LTC.

Anyone got any speculation for where we are headed in the short term?

Seem's like everyone's just so surprised we broke $1000 nobody planned any speculation for afterwards, and I need speculation.

Surprised ? Who ?

When it was crashing from 900 and we reached 550 USD I said : It will fall below 500 but 400 will hold. If 400 holds then we will hit 1000 USD within the next 10 days. And here we are 7 days later... All correct.

Expect more of the same, going up strong with some corrections/ crashes on the way. For exemple we maybe hit 1600 before crashing back to 1200, then resume rise.

I believe it can again double by the end of the year to 2000 USD. A more conservative estimation is 1500 USD by the end of the year.
In 2014 I believe we'll witness the bull through the 4 digits with the 5 digits in sight. When we reach 5 digits is anyone's guess but I personally see it happen within 12 months.

So ... people felt 2k to be a reasonable figure by the end of 2013.
Personally, I wonder IF we'll see $700-800/BTC this year. There are plenty of lines drawn on charts; $1500 by the end of July, Risto thought of $1M/coin and so on.
De facto: IF all Chinese investors cash out their coins at a loss right about now, we'll see a stable $150 for quite some time.

Not to mention the bankruptcy of some major Chinese exchanges; negative news coverage all over the world, the "Ponzi" word pulled way more than it should and so on.
Investors ? people with USD on the exchanges ?! Where ? I cannot see them anywhere.

ltc rallys because its difficulty is reaching a new ath.
