With states, are you talking about sovereign states or federal states (Like the states of the USA)?
And how does your system of changing "protection provider" differ from migration, and how is it achieved?
Federal states are not quite states. Which have become clear by 1865

I'm talking about any company that offers protection services. Size can vary from one person to millions of employees. Origin - current states or multinationals or protection companies or gangs.
The major difference from emigration - in not having to emigrate. The same way like you don't have to relocate to change internet provider or bank or insurance company.
If you ever emigrated, you would agree that it's very costly enterprise, in all respects, in most cases - prohibitively costly. "My" system reduces the cost of switching protection provider to practically zero and therefore allows market forced act freely.
How it is achieved - is a million dollar question. I hope that bitcoin (and monero) is a step in this direction.
Transition to such system is basically transfer from socialism to capitalism. Replacing the remaining pocket of socialism - the state, by capitalistic companies.
We've seen examples of such transfer in economics during last decades. There is basically two major ways: voluntary and compulsory. The voluntary one (China) is when state builds the market. The compulsory is when the state collapses and market emerges from the resulting chaos (Soviet Union). I hope the transition will be voluntary but afraid that it will be compulsory.
You mean well, but I think optimists like you will be taken advantage of by liars who call themselves free-marketers. Looking at history, I would worry we would all be starved out by the post-Soviet style economic "shock therapy" your scenario entails, only to end up with equally concentrated power/wealth in the hands of a new generation of oligopolists.
Except for me of course. I won't starve. I'm a bitcoin millionaire.

Even with Memristor technology it would take more than a small group to jam out the global hashpower. There's billions in infrastructure and it would require trillions to topple.
As said before, the "small group" will be the top 4-6 miners, who already have enough power to overcome all the others.
That is a paradoxical thing about the bitcoin protocol: no matter how massive he mining network, there will always be a potential enemy with the all power needed to take control of it. Just as, no matter how big of an army a country has, it will never be big enough to protect it from a military coup...
Yes but, notice, that countries with small armies, do exist.
Sure, a bigger army could , right now, tomorrow take over the whole world, and then a little country would not have the ability to "protect itself"
but do you notice, that the people of Luxemburg, the people of Ireland, the people of New Zealand, manage to get to sleep just fine.
(and whilst no countries are immune to a military coup, in most countries it is not something that keeps people awake at night, why? because, the second you instigate something like a military coup, then all bets are off, you have changed the entire game)
I feel like there were definitely some long stretches of recent history where the Irish and Maori did not sleep well.

Also, I lived there for a half year back in 1968 when it still was basically a free country and it saddens me to see how low it has sunk. Pity.
'68, The year RFK and MLK were both murdered, militant Chicago protests meant to support a true anti-war candidate were violently suppressed, and riots continued as Vietnam and racism worsened. We're constantly struggling to live up to our stated values here, 68 couldn't have been that great :p .

Here are questions from a newbie trader: What's the longest you have sat on an ask or bid order waiting for it to be filled? How long might you typically sit on losing longs or shorts before you close? I'm still learning patience and while I can ride out quite a bit more of this rise with my open short, with the hope that on another decline I can either close at a small loss or mostly break even (any profit will be small at this point), a lot of articles suggest using much more strict stop losses than I had in place (and that I ultimately shyed away from using). And now I'm curious about the benefit of just closing now. Interest is negligible
I realize I am asking this in a den of hodlers.

I think the only way we'll have a decent rise again is big positive news.
It's the only way the bears will be beaten - by lots of new investment coming into BTC.
Whether that's BIT beginning to trade, the Winkledouche ETF getting approved, Gemini, huge companies adopting, I don't know.
Maybe even not until the halving.
But we won't see any higher than 350 USD without a big push.

Post 11058236 (copy this link) (by Shatoshi) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_14.10h):
the most rabidly right wing Brit would probably be regarded as a commie pinko begging to be relieved of their life by their American counterpart.
You noticed that too?
What most countries consider basic public healthcare is considered to be an affront to liberty, democracy, capitalism, and the American Way by many Americans.
Wasting zillions of dollars on the military, prisons, law enforcement, surveillance of citizens, and defense of corporations is OK though.
This always baffled me. Average citizen in US can not afford a normal cancer treatment provided by basic healthcare service available everywhere else in the western world, right? So if he gets cancer, which one stands pretty good chance to get, he has an option either not to get normal cancer treatment or bankrupt his own family forever. How's then small state beneficial to average citizen in this case? Why do people vote for small state if they are not rich and expose themselves to this enormous risk?
Do we really want to know the answer?
We know San Fransisco will be hit by another catastrophic earthquake within our lifetime, still hipsters and "bassoons" flock over there like it was made of cotton candy.
That's different. A lot of people have no choice, can't afford to move somewhere else because of the job or the family. Being against or for free general healthcare costs you nothing, you just have to vote. And again many, many non-rich people vote against free general healthcare and for small state, with very large chance to give themselves or some family member a death sentence. Amazing.
It goes back to the civil war, with the division between the slave run economy in the south and the more industrial north. The north won the war and the US was de facto a federal state rather than a confederal state. Slavery was abolished, but as we saw in the sixties, and to some extent today, parts of the south maintains those race lines and are vehemently against taking any instructions from the federal level (That's also where this right wing anarchism and hate towards "The Government" comes from). And according to this thinking you don't use rich white peoples money to pay for healthcare for other races.
Of course, most states don't think like this, so these forces started cooperating with the classical liberals/libertarians and christian conservatives because they had overlapping interests, turning the republicans from the party of Lincoln and against suppression of blacks, to what we've seen for the last 50 years. Up until Nixon America was adopting social policies just like europe and much of the rest of the world.
The true genius can be found in the modern day propaganda developed by the republicans and Rupert Murdochs FOX News. They know they are lying, and they know what they are saying can be proven wrong very easily. But they also know that their core audience won't care or understand this if they just keep droning on as if it was true anyway. If you understand that what they are saying is stupid, then you're not their core audience and they don't need you. It's a kind of brainwashing which both the chinese and the Kreml have adopted. It makes it much easier to control populations.
What they also find is that a majority of the rest starts, not agreeing with the BS, but treating it as a legitimate viewpoint. Which makes fertile ground for new fools to fall for their stupidity. How many times haven't you see people being interviewed trying to be "balanced" when asked about "Obamacare". We in europe would just roll our eyes and say that the republicans were off the plot.
sry, TL
^This guy gets it.^
And to that explanation I would add that on the fringe-right end of the political spectrum you have individuals like the Koch brothers and huge corporate sponsors who essentially spent decades pouring tons of money into creating a whole network of think-tanks, lobbying groups, and alternative academic institutions that have pumped out toxic free-market propaganda and legislation. Decades ago they transformed the libertarian movement from a collection of various nutso neo-confederates, fascists, supremacists, nationalists, christian theologists, objectivists, and pro-protectionism corporatists into a powerful marketing machine for free-market dogmatism that has been poisoning our politics for decades - even if no libertarian politicians get elected. You can see how corporate tax and income tax are pathetically low in America, and you can see how the social safety net that we used to have in this country has slowly been dismantled. The Republicans will still pass legislation handed to them from the hyper-capitalist think tanks verbatim, they will later get a cushy lobbyist job or a kickback in the form of campaign donations. And the corporations reap ever-greater profits to the detriment of ordinary Americans.

Someone was rabbit pumping for a few minutes and then just crapped out.

what is a "fake" pump? Over 200 bitcoins were consistently purchased per minute for 15 minutes, for the second half it consistently came up against sell walls, though I guess I don't know who set up the sell walls. Do you mean it was one manipulator setting up both bids and asks in a tight range?
edit: not buy walls sell walls

I love that the price has been been bouncing off my break even price several times today. Got blue balls.
