150k per coin soon
Where do we have to sign for this?

I personally
(feel) see $1000 fairly soon maybe by new year's eve as someone suggests
We all need money for Christmas so the price might not see $1000 by then. There will be too many of us dipping into our bitcoin stash to pay for those luxury presents. The last monthly pay check before Christmas is gone and there's an expensive three weeks ahead. All those bitcoins getting sold could hold back $1000+ until next year.

Current small bitcoin dump may depend on the large LTC dump.
Agreed, there were millions of dollars of litecoins getting dumped for bitcoins today, and the dumpers probably dumped the bitcoins for fiat. Bitcoin's starting to recover already and the Italian news will give it a pump over the next week. The mainstream media is weighing the risks of Italian bank bail ins.

bitstamp above finex? steroids anyone?
Doesn't happen that often right?!
I was surprised as well seeing this.
Maybe this is mutating from bearstamp to bullstamp.

really weird. € is even more bullish. up 2% instead of 1%$. i guess someone found arbitrage and it involves a € exchange and bitstamp.
The € crashed against the $ after the Italian referendum so the European bitcoiners might have traded their € for bitcoins, then traded their bitcoins for $ or held them. They might be watching the markets and waiting for further € crashes before buying back in. That could be why the € bitcoin markets are more bullish than the $ bitcoin markets.

Good morning Bitcoinland.
Away for a day but I see I didn't miss anything. It's still about the same... $764USD/$1016CAD (Bitcoinaverage).
Isn't it about time for another assault on $780?
I've had a sell order at $780 for a long time, set it up literally the second after the market fell in June and it hasn't been hit yet - wonder if we'll break it this time.
I'd cancel it. If it goes above $780 it will probably go above $800. The last high is a resistance point, and traders will have placed secret buy orders above it. If it stays below $780 the traders will consider the last two $779 highs a double top, and if it goes above $780 the traders will consider it as an indication of another bull run.

Although I hate giving advice in case it's rubbish, this time I was 99.9% sure it was good. I hope starmman cancelled that sell order at $780. Once bitcoin got past $780 there was no stopping the bull run.

Very interesting.
I didn't realise their volume was so high with their auctions included. There are frequent days when they have 1000+ bitcoins auctioned. Gemini might become one of the biggest exchanges in the future if its volume continues to increase at the present rate.
I used this link to see the data instead of Chainsaw's.

we'll see a Big move tonight, maybe above 1000$ again.
i guess that means you altcoiners will get to pick up your altcoins on the cheap?
based on what facts you say this about tonight?
I love the optimism but history tells a different story. It's hard to revisit highs after a major dump. "Oh shit ... I missed the moon ... I need to get off this bitch ... I hope it bounces back up so I can recoup losses".
Those who held thinking they were going to get a better price and those who simply bought at the high get scared and pray for a chance to dump their coins. Hopefully to break even or make a small profit. Some are so scared they sell for losses.
History tells us bitcoin will slowly cycle downwards for some time. Believe me, I wish the opposite.
Now people are realizing the China bans bitcoin story was bullshit there's a chance bitcoin might slowly cycle upwards for some time. History tells us bitcoin crashes when rumors of a Chinese bitcoin ban start, then recovers from the crash when people realize the rumors were false and China hasn't banned bitcoin.
https://cointelegraph.com/news/media-spread-wrong-china-bans-bitcoin-narrative-causing-bitcoin-price-slumpRecently, the Chinese government and the People’s Bank of China offered reasonable suggestions to Bitcoin exchanges and users, discouraging fake volumes and offline scam-like promotions while asking users to maintain responsibility for their independent actions.
But some media outlets, mostly western-based, used the events to spread panic among Chinese investors, leading the price of Bitcoin down to $830.

I think blaming the media for this correction is far fetched at best. The correction was due. Quit trying to blame someone for it.
Despite the fact the correction was due, the media created some China bans bitcoin hysteria at exactly the same time as the correction. It most likely drove the price down further, and for longer than it would have done.
The first time the China bans bitcoin story was published in 2014 it undoubtedly caused a massive crash. This time it might not have caused the crash, but it put people off buying back in until they were sure it was bullshit.

I'm not sure about the time frame might take a couple of weeks maybe of not much movement. But I'm feeling comfortable about the bottom too. Looking forward to next week.
It was only a month ago I was advising someone to close his sell order at $780. A month later and its crashed to $880. If this is the bottom it's up $100 from a month ago.

You are saying? "if this is the bottom"
At this time, we have a price battle that kind of started three weeks ago and the bears kind of let the prices go up further than they wanted (or maybe they were kind of willing to let it go up)..... anyhow, now there is a battle that seems to be starting... There is a disagreement about price. Sure, maybe we will end up in the $880s, but there are a lot of areas between about $600 and $1140 that we could end up...
O.k. Maybe I am being a bit broad with my description of the range.. but it just seems too early to call anything...
There is a potential of another test of support in the lower $800s, but yeah, maybe we don't go there, and then that scenario would be bullish... but I don't think that you can determine either bearish or bullish in the short term because we gotta get some resolution of this $600 to $1140 range... which is pretty fricken broad at the moment, and surely if we do not get further test of the bottom and $880 ends up being the bottom, as you are suggesting, then that would be a pretty bullish scenario that does not yet seem to be a given (I would ballpark that scenario at less than 45%.. but yeah surely it is difficult to know for sure while in the very beginning stages of what appears to be a disagreement about price)
Three months ago it was $600. I think your most bearish bottom of $600 is unlikely. The summer resistance at $800 is now a support level. If it does crash back to $600 I think it wouldn't take long to go back up. I'm bullish, this strikes me as a bear trap.

Now people are used to the idea of $1000 it won't be going back below it again. After the next blow off top the bears will be expecting to see triple digits again, but it won't happen.

You can reserve swaps without utilizing them, which can get you a better rate. So there are 22k btc reserved, and 16k already sold, leaving 6k btc sitting there ready to be sold for the right price without any additional swap cost to the trader.
Does this link show historical BTC swaps used together with the unused swaps, omitting the USD swaps?
https://www.bfxdata.com/swaphistory/btcThe bottom chart on that page shows this.
total sum of BTC margin funding: 22,414
unused sum of BTC margin funding: 199
The top chart on this page shows these values.
https://bfxdata.com/positions/btcusdBTCUSD long positions: 34 425
BTCUSD short positions: -13 267
I assume the different totals are because USD is included and those figures are active values.

I always thought the difference was because BTC margin was used for long position in the other markets as well as for shorts in BTC.
I have never used swaps on bitfinex. Can USD margin be used for long position in the other markets as well as for shorts in BTC? I think I read you can borrow bitcoins and use them to go either long or short with, and I assume USD is similar.

I don't use Finex personally, so I'm not sure. I'd have thought that would be the case though.
I can not seeing it go below $1000 at this point. It shot pass it without a flinch in rolling on forward.
Just need to wait until the next economic news comes and see how it withstands what China exchanges and Trump is doing to the states economic woes have in store for the next 48 hours. If it stays above the price it is at now then it can be bulletproof.

Steady now, we're not out of the woods yet. Once we break the ATH,
then maybe we can contemplate an end to triple digits. Right now price is approaching a delicate position, and, like PoolMiner mentioned, it could still all turn out to be a bull trap.
So the scenario below is not yet impossible?

I'm always amazed by the price devlopement, look at the KRW chart of BTC, 10% pump (washtrading) in 2h.
The pump in KRW is already gone but still alive in USD. Somehow i feel better that i don't have any real money invested...just playing around
Everything in Altlandia now has had a meaningless pump. They are running out of shitcoins to pump. I guess they'll have to go make some new ones real quick...
The alt pump rate drastically reduced since mcafee switched from offering daily alt recommendations to offering weekly ones. If he had kept up the daily rate he would have instigated 364 pumps within a year.

Yep. Got an e-mail from Bitpay today to say that Wavecrest are not supporting it anymore.
Was told in the email that the funds will be returned to my Bitpay account.
Not sure if there is another card issuer out there for us Europeans.
I have a virtual Wirex card but I don't like their monthly fees.
That story says there are plenty of other card issuers visa is prepared to work with. It stopped doing business with WaveCrest because of non-compliance with its rules, but it's happy to work with other crypto/fiat card issuers.
Bitcoin card provider BitPay was also affected, telling customers in an email: "We are already in discussions with potential alternative issuers for the BitPay Card which will allow us to serve customers in Europe and beyond."
Visa said the cards had been suspended after Visa terminated WaveCrest's membership due to "continued non-compliance with our operating rules", although it said other Visa cards that convert Bitcoin into normal currency would not be affected.
"Visa has other approved card programmes that use fiat funds converted from cryptocurrency in a number of jurisdictions. The termination of WaveCrest’s Visa membership does not affect these other products."

Pretty good actually. Moving a big chunk from Bitcoin Segwit to Bitcoin Cash has worked out splendidly.

Serious question - do you think Dr Craig S Wright is Satoshi?
Peter - if you are reading this I'm also interested in your view as well.
I'm probably not the right "Peter," but I give Dr Wright the benefit of a doubt. A shadow of a doubt, mind you, but it's possible. Similar to the possibility that I will win either the Megamillions or Powerball jackpot this weekend. (I bought 1 ticket for each.)
I wouldn't give such generous odds, I would give the same odds as winning both the Megamillions and Powerball jackpot this weekend.

This piece of news hasn't been discussed much here yet, so what do you think of the Wavecrest debit card shutdown? The official word from VISA is that Wavecrest didn't comply with VISA regulations - but there's no hint at which specific regulations were disattended.
To me, it smells like a few governments put some pressure on VISA to end that service. VISA have been swift to oblige, as they always are as soon as a big actor uses power voice mode. But I might just be a rookie conspiracy theorist...
There are loads of other crypto/fiat debit cards that visa is still supporting. It's Wavecrest that visa is cracking down on, not crypto/fiat debit cards in general. It probably won't affect bitcoin's price anyway because most of the new buyers in the crypto ecosystem won't even know what a crypto/fiat debit card is yet.

FFS the block size again? Has anyone noticed what's happening with the price and alts and stuff?
I posted recently we has some dojis and would have an interesting day - and indeed we did - a predictable breakout. Now have a look - we have a situation that could be misinterpreted as a BTC bull trap by the shitcoin-tards and that is exactly what has happened - alts recovering a bit after their recent falls.
In other words, BTC has already passed the capitulation phase and it ready to boom again, but the alts are still in denial that this run is over for them. /r/ripple etc are still bullish - they are ones who will end up selling ripple at the bottom and FOMOing into BTC when the price explodes.
Still bullish AF
Yes I noticed. We are at a borderline bitcoin price of $17000. It keeps swinging just below, then just above that level. It's only about two weeks ago that we were down to the $11000s and it's already recovered to $17000. Bullish AF.

Has the vulnerability been exploited yet? There must be a reason they are rushing out a fix now after poo poo'ing it since November.

The reason is because someone gave them a demo on just how serious this was. Thank God the demo was by a white/gray hat rather than a black hat.
That reassures me. If the vulnerability had already been exploited by a black hat we would probably have heard news of it by now. Hopefully only the white/gray hat figured out how to use it until now.

Bitcoin is holding nice and steady at $15k+
I am still very content and am mostly surprised about big altcoins losing this morning (but scattered throughout the market) and little alts flying.
The markets are changing...
Bitcoin's testing $16000 again. Now the weekend's over, it's Monday afternoon in Korea, and bitcoin might start pumping again.

Its called CONSOLIDATION.
January is historically one of the most BEARISH months. So far, January 2018 has bucked the annual trend. But we have 1-2 more weeks of potential bearishness - even a potential move back to 10k. But after that, we will be back to our uptrend. Generally people have lost their collective minds and all rational discourse about simple things like consolidation have been completely thrown out the window.
So it's going to keep teasing us for the rest of January?
Unfortunately your logic sounds correct. I suppose everyone is selling bitcoins to pay off the debts they ran up over Christmas. After their monthly pay day at the end of January they might be back on their feet again.

I was really speculating that bitcoin's market cap and price will surge starting 1st week of this month but i was wrong or maybe i speculated it on a very early date. I am just wondering if what's happening to bitcoin's status right now. It seems so stagnant and i noticed that all top 10 cryptos goes down.
Stagnating is better than crashing, and the price was surging up to quickly to be sustainable. Sometimes bitcoin gets less volatile than fiat currencies. Maybe we are entering one of those phases.

Last year at this time, I guessed we would end 2017 between $1600-1800. And I was so wrong.
So Ima make the same prediction, I say we will end 2018 somewhere ~$22k-26k. Even that would be a great year to me.

The November/December price rocket shocked me. I never expected such huge gains so fast.

okex has published a note that they handle UBTC from now on.
Beside on ub.com they published the wallets, source and everything.
What else do you want ? Looks like a grand opening to me.
I'm thinking of the second distribution. I'm impressed anyone got any considering the evil minds behind it. I'm also impressed at how consistently priced all the forks are. The two I got rid were both in the 0.01 range as is UBTC.
Actually ... I was thinking about this. There are plenty of asks stepped to 0.02 0.03 0.04 etc... and a whole buch of bids at 0.01 ... I think people are taking position waiting for the first move, i.e. a big pump ; maybe we have the chance to see it before it actually happens ?
Unfortunately as the electrum wallet failed to work properly, I need another 40 hours or so to get in that game

Should we recheck our addresses? Do we have distribution?
huh? I don't get what you mean. UB made a snapshot of the blockchain at block 498777 ... whatever you had in the chain at that height should be there. Mine are.
No. At the time of the fork they stole all mine. There was supposed to be a phase 2 distribution.
There was a very short phase 2 distribution (after which they stole the majority of coins).
https://www.ub.com/project/getPhase 2
Final round of Distribution of UBTC
The second and final distribution phase of UBTC for the Bitcoin community will end around noon (UTC +8) on 3rd January 2018.

It could be.
Some other interesting stories from cointelegraph are that South Korea is definitely not banning bitcoin, and Russia's largest state bank is going to launch its own cryptocurrency exchange in its Swiss branch.
Russia's not banning bitcoin either, its regulating it with a Digital Assets Regulation Bill.
https://cointelegraph.com/news/south-korea-finance-minister-confirms-no-ban-on-cryptocurrencyhttps://cointelegraph.com/news/russias-largest-state-bank-to-open-cryptocurrency-exchange-in-europeOn Jan. 25, Russian authorities presented the Digital Assets Regulation Bill, which defines and establishes a regulatory system for cryptocurrencies, ICOs, mining and trading.
According to the latest update of the bill, the Ministry of Finance is aiming to legally adopt cryptocurrency trading, since it would reduce the risks of fraud and increase the government’s tax revenue, due to the potential for fiscal transparency.

I have made money from the last bull run and withdrawn it into my bank to not care about this drop. One thing I am certain, I will buy back when the market is favorable. I have small orders already filled but big ones waiting at the very bottom. Dont be scared. Bitcoin from the very start is like this. We've seen worse. It will recover.
I closed off my short on the last terrific shake down to 7.3k. Too much profit to ignore.
Then I thought - before starting to nurse it again, why not go long?
So I have a long position now, from the past low. It's in profit right now, but I would like to wait a bit more before closing and reversing it.
So, I think this is the problem with margin trading. You begin cautiously - it's a hedge, you know - and before you know it, you turn into a gambler. A winning gambler for the time being, but that's the point: the change in attitude. Using margin trading properly and sticking to the plan - ot at least to the mindset - requires lots of discipline.
My hunch about quick-reversing and longing is still paying out, but if I manage to close this in profit, I'm going back to my safety short. Then let it go down to 2k. I won't care.
Even if you win at margin trading you can lose everything when your exchange gets hacked. To margin trade you have to risk keeping your coins on an exchange, and none of them are reliable.
If they don't get hacked they get overloaded, and you can't login to close your position.

Absolutely cause anybody that sell his or her holding in other not to loose because of the dump in price of the market such person person is already loosing. How ever, this remind of
Papa Laszlo the man who bought 2 pizza with 10,000 bitcoin back in the year 2010 and I knew he will surely regret doing that now. Guys don't sell your bitcoin now if it not for an important or urgent situation so you won't regret it.
He was the first GPU miner. He'll have tens of thousands more coins.
No he has no coins left. He sold his remaining coins for next to nothing and didn't buy back. He must hate every bitcoin pizza day.
Sadly the guy who was paid those bitcoins sold them for a few hundred dollars which he used to pay for a holiday.

Cointelegraph also had the chance to speak with Jeremy Sturdivant, also known as Jercos, who participated in the original Bitcoin pizza deal as the recipient of those 10,000 BTC that he turned into two pizzas. Sturdivant, who told CT that he turned Hanyecz’s BTC into fiat for a trip when they were worth a couple of hundred dollars,

You think a publicly known early miner would admit to still retaining coins? I sure as shit would not.
Perhaps, but if he was prepared to part with 10k for two pizzas then he was probably prepared to part with the rest of his coins for an extremely low price.
