Its more of a proposal without bitcoin core and the major exchanges. It's a nice starting point but without near universal support it is just a setup for a split into Bitcoin Classic and Bitcoin Whatever. We would be better off with the status quo and high fees than a contentious split.

Consensus is consensus and is very hard by definition. I agree that it is concerning that major players appear to be unwilling sit down in person for discussions.

From my admittedly layman and non-technical perspective the 95% threshold makes sense. However 83% of the hashing power is getting much closer to 95% then we have been in the past. Perhaps now further discussions and compromises need to be made to get the last 12% and bitcoin core on board. The major exchanges would probably all follow at that point. That would be extremely bullish.

Not got any links but I assume it's because of a lack of fiat at the exchange, no fiat -> no buyers, and it doesn't look like there is an Arb yet for buying Alts elsewhere moving them to finex and switching to BTC so the exchange is stagnating.

It would be a better choice to convert profits into gold instead.  If you don't need to spend it yet, the only thing you should convert to is something else that's stable and has a limited supply.

Trading is fine but IMO when you're withdrawing significant amounts, spending or going for gold are usually better choices.

Gold and silver is small amounts are good for a rainy day but I have gold in the form of Bitcoin on my phone and can spend it whenever I want! You can't eat Gold and you certainly can't send it anywhere in the world in minutes!

Quite the scary correction so far. Literally every single coin is dumping. I was worried about the altcoin bubble popping and bringing BTC down with it. We need some positive SegWit news this weekend!

I'm gonna play the devils advocate here and say, if you are young, are smart and do your research, and have a good career (and thus money to invest), then diversification is a terrible idea.

Here's why.

When you're still young (in your 20's), you still have you're whole life ahead of you to invest. So it's smarter to do the research, and focus on some higher risk/reward investments earlier on. If you try and fail, you're still young and have more time to start again.

If you divest too much when your young, then you'll just lose out on big potential gains early on that compound later. Sure you'll eventually retire with a nice safe $500k, or maybe $1-2M, but that'll take you 30-40 yrs to get there. And it won't be enough. If you focus on higher risk earlier on and diversify when you get older, then you'll realize maybe 2x-4x gains over that amount.

It's a different ballgame when you get older. You no longer have the benefit of time (or $$$, as your expenses have increased and likely your relative income has decreased) so you have to play it much safer moving forward.

Either that, or if you are starting over at an older age with next to nothing saved, have to take BIG risks to make up for lost time. Sadly many have to try and do that today. #YOLO

I see we're consolidating quite nicely after yesterday's excessive rise and corresponding deep correction... currently $2418USD (Bitcoinaverage).

Too bad our string of green candles ended at 8 but at we moderated the upsurge to the point where only the zaniest fools will call it a bubble.

It might take a few days to reach another ATH now but that's probably good. Steady growth is best.

People talk as if this "healthy correction" is over, but that is yet to be seen. Only the zaniest of fools would be calling for new ATHs in a matter of a few days at the present time. Come on man, take off your Bitcoin shaded sunglasses for a moment.

Have you people forgotten that Bitcoin has been on a year and a half+ bull run which has seen value appreciation upwards of 1582% (at yesterday's all time high)? So, now that we've dropped down to 1334% value appreciation in 1.5 years, now the correction is over? Puhleeze... give me a break.

The value could and should fall quite a bit more, and ATHs will not be reached again in a matter of days... more likely a matter of months... and probably even more likely a year+.

I already rent. I live in a dirt-cheap secure bunker in a great neighborhood in downtown Toronto surrounded by a close-knit community of artists, musicians, writers, beatniks, hippies, hipsters, punks, immigrants and general riffraff.

I'm surrounded by bars, bistros, patios, booze cans, live music, original artwork, gourmet food and shops selling everything imaginable.

My rent is less than the maintenance fees on even the cheapest condo.

When the time comes to move up, I'll buy a place outright. I don't do banks or debt. I learned my lesson about the mortgage racket decades ago. I'll continue to save up until I can pay cash. Maybe by then I'll be able to buy a place directly with Bitcoin.

It is more important to realize that in the USA it is a long weekend due to a holiday, the banks won't be transferring any $ until Tuesday. This is not the first holiday weekend that has seen huge dumps. The people that will have the most money on the exchanges this weekend are the people that sold, not the people that are waiting on wired funds to buy the "cheap" coins. Expect to see a rise in price Monday afternoon, I wouldn't try to catch any knives until the earliest of Sunday evening.

second bottom hit, pretty near same levels, all signals indicate that most likely some rebound incoming with some price consolidation time... during the weekend. This looks like the most plausible scenario to me, by looking at charts.

Of course, everything can happen, it can go lower. But in the short term, and by that i mean -> "this weekend" and probably longer, i see it stable and breaking upwards.

So, if you are a noob and you are reading these, beware of all these "bitcoin going to 500$" and "these weekend will drop below 2000$". I agree with you that ETH is severely overinflated, esp when I have the belief that it was never to even intended to be a cryptocurrency in the first place and thus hold any significant value. It's been pre-mined to death, and the float is tiny. But even worse, the ETH fans don't even realize that the mining floor is somewhere down around the single digit dollar area, and troll traders took millions of ETH off exchanges for pennies for the last 2 years in anticipation of running it up to the moon. So any weakness in buying demand, or any flaw/bug found, or any exchange hacked, and ETH will get dumped into the absolute ground.

But I disagree that this will affect BTC to the negative or in any way whatsoever. It's completely disconnected. If anything, they'll be trading back into BTC on the way down.

I think this dump is from the guy in this thread that predicted 3000 in July. He is trying to save face for his erroneous prediction if it were to happen in June.

We used to expect a weekend dump, but it pushed up during a few weekends recently. Maybe Bitcoin will surprise us and push up again this weekend. It's only $100 below the ATH.

Being relatively new to bitcoin, I'm concerned with the fact that bitcoin moves mostly on weekends. Why is that or is this just what everyone has come to accept?  Since the numbers are quite high now and new prospective buyers feeling a bit tense in shelling out their dough, I suspect Bitcoin will be a bit more chill this weekend.  

If you're being serious, How do you "know" that? I'd be put at ease to know that was correct.  I have been watching very closely and notice a big difference in the way the books act on all the exchanges starting around 3-4 pm Pacific time, on Friday's.  The numbers look random bot entered to me until around Monday or Tuesday evening. Would you invest differently if you knew someone had a large majority stockpiled and manipulated the price at their will?

Cheap, when the money is worth it, but not if it's not worth it. What I mean to say is for transactions valued higher than $100, not a cup of coffee. Off chain for that one.
Uncensorable, when you don't deal with an exchange. It's the exchange that attempts to censor you, so just be smart and tumble or mix.

Totally true story: I was at the Belmont Stakes yesterday waiting in a line for some food. Struck up a discussion with the guy in front of me about paramutual betting, mentioned I was glad they didn't take bitcoins at the track and he said he recently tried buying some bitcoins at 2k each. Almost sold him the contents of my walking wallet but he seemed interested and had a few.

When you have a discussion with a totally random person at the track about this stuff, that is interesting.....

There is nothing significant happening in the past couple of weeks.  Sure a couple of weeks ago there was news of the segwit2mb that brought a pump based on false premises, but in the end, the pump seems to merely be based on ongoing and upwards price pressures, possibly driven by demand in Japan and Korea (and of course contagious, including some of the China and Bitfinex disparities resolving themselves) and no meaningful news developments..

Meanwhile, we passed $4000CAD according to Google.

Not just another rung up the ladder, but another milestone.

Just got back with my newest paper wallet. Not a lot but better than nothing. If, on the long-shot chance it goes even lower, I'll buy some more. I'm expecting some Fiat revenues later today.

This wasn't the deepest dip... less than 17% at Stamp, even lower at Bitcoinaverage, but it's also better than nothing.

Still, it's only half the dip we had in May when it fell 33% and we all saw how quickly it rebounded from that... 9 days to a new ATH.

Let's see how long it takes this time.

Although I haven't been following the latest ICOs someone claimed some of them are raising huge amounts. When the devs behind them dump the Bitcoins they collected it might suppress the price for a while.

Maybe some dev just dumped his ICO coins. If that's what happened the market will probably soon absorb the coins and the price will go back up afterwards.

I fully disagree. Luke-jr is a honest small blocker and has been consistent with his view for a long time. Anyhow: 1) He has had very decent contributions to the code. 2) He has written that HF proposal that increases the block size eventually.

No reasonable amount, which would not fully centralized Bitcoin, is enough. Increasing the block size != improving scalability. Segwit -> Schnorr + signature aggregation are a very nice step. For those that do not know, and I'm sure ImI is part of those, the latter requires 1 signature for inputs from the same address. This means that TXs pulling out a lot of inputs from the same one would be very small in size in comparison to today. The bonus side effect of this improvement is not only capacity, but also the incentive to consolidate UTXO. Block size increases make sense, to a certain degree. However, kicking the can that way does nothing but set precedence for "weak/lazy scaling" and centralization. Let's have actual improvements, like those mentions and Weak blocks, before we do this?
